Reset review progress

Sometimes you want a deck to start over — maybe your ratings drifted, you took a long break, or you just want to drill a wordbook from scratch. Reset clears the spaced-repetition schedule for the entries; the entries themselves are untouched.

What “reset” actually does

For every entry in scope:

  • Forgets when the card was last shown and when it’s next due.
  • Treats it as new again — it’ll come back into the new pool of the next session.
  • Does not delete the entry, the translation, the AI lookup, the note, or the wordbook membership.

So your vocab is intact; only the SRS history is wiped.

Reset progress for a wordbook

  1. Open the Flashcards tab and start a review session for the wordbook (tap Review or Start on its row).
  2. In the session AppBar, tap the menu.
  3. Pick Reset progress for this wordbook.
  4. Confirm in the dialog: “This will clear review history for all entries in this wordbook and mark them as new again.” Tap Reset.

The session reloads with everything as new. You’ll get a snackbar — “Review progress reset for this wordbook.”

Reset progress for all words

  1. Open the Flashcards tab and start the All words deck.
  2. In the AppBar, tap the menu.
  3. Pick Reset progress for all words.
  4. Confirm: “This will clear review history for ALL vocabulary entries and mark them as new again.” Tap Reset.

This is the nuclear option — it resets the schedule for every entry across every wordbook. Use it sparingly.

Why reset isn’t on every screen

The reset menu only appears inside an active wordbook or All words review session — not on the Recent words session, and not on the entry detail screen. The reasoning: reset is a heavy operation and we want you to be looking at the deck you’re about to wipe.

What happens to the badge and reminders

Right after a reset:

  • The Flashcards tab badge recomputes — it’ll likely jump up, since lots of “new” cards are now ready.
  • Your daily reminder (if enabled) keeps the same time but treats the reset deck as fresh material to nudge you on.
