Earn AI credits with ads

On free and lower tiers, the Advanced AI features in SnapVerbo (better translations, richer definitions, Anki / PDF export) cost credits. You can buy time on these features by watching a short ad — no money, no subscription.

Where the ad gate appears

You don’t go looking for ads. They show up only when you opt in, in the moment you ask for a credit-costing feature:

  • Tap the AI sparkle in a lookup → “Unlock better translations” / “Unlock better definitions” / “Unlock better explanations”.
  • Tap Export in Flashcards and pick PDF or Anki → “Unlock PDF export” / “Unlock Anki export”.

Each gate is a bottom sheet:

Unlock better translations Watch a short ad to earn credits for enhanced translations.

[Not now] [Watch ad]

Tap Watch ad and SnapVerbo loads a rewarded ad. When it finishes, credits land in your balance and the feature you tapped runs.

The two ad formats

You can choose between:

  • Shorter ads (5–30s) — quick interruption, smaller credit reward.
  • Longer ads (~60s) — bigger interruption, bigger credit reward.

Pick what suits you: a quick top-up or a chunkier session.

Set your default

  1. Settings → scroll to Premium credits & ads.
  2. Under Ad reward format, tap Shorter ads (5–30s) or Longer ads (~60s).

The choice sticks across sessions until you change it again.

Or change it from the gate itself

Some gates show a gear icon in the top-right — tap it to switch ad format right there, without leaving the flow.

Note: on some ad networks SnapVerbo only has one rewarded format. When that’s the case, the toggle is hidden — there’s nothing to choose.

What the credits unlock

Credits are a single bucket spent across:

  • Advanced lookup (AI translation / AI definition / expanded definition).
  • OCR enrichment (better explanations after a capture).
  • Shared text advanced explanations.
  • Anki export and PDF export.

Different actions cost different amounts. The gate tells you the rough trade (“Watch a short ad to earn credits for…”) — you don’t have to think in numbers.

Tips

  • You’re never forced into an ad. Tap Not now and the feature simply isn’t run.
  • Cooldowns exist. If you’ve watched several ads in quick succession you may see “Ad cooldown active — please try again later.” Take a break and try in a few minutes.
  • No connection? No ads. Rewarded ads need network to load. Offline, the gate will fail to start one.
  • Higher tiers skip the gate entirely. Fluent+ and Poly have these features included with no per-use cost — no ad, no dialog. See Manage your account for tier details.
  • Classroom users skip the gate too. If you’ve redeemed a teacher-issued classroom code, advanced features are unlocked without ads.

Privacy

  • Ads are served by a third-party ad network (Google or AppLovin MAX). The first time you see one, you’ll be asked for consent.
  • If you’ve opted out of analytics in Settings → Privacy, ads still serve but personalized targeting is disabled.
