Using SnapVerbo
SnapVerbo helps you understand and remember real-world text you encounter while reading — books, restaurant menus, apps, kindle, web pages, and more.
How it works - the core loop
-
Capture text
Take a photo, a screenshot or import an image that contains text. -
Tap to translate or define
Tap a word, select a phrase or a sentence to see its meaning. -
Save vocabulary
Save words or phrases you want to revisit later. -
Review vocabulary
Organize vocabulary into wordbooks that you can review with flashcards.
Capturing text
You can capture text in a few ways:
- Camera: Open SnapVerbo and point your camera at printed or on-screen text.
- Select from Gallery Import an existing image from your gallery.
- Screenshot to Share Take a screenshot and share it to the SnapVerbo.
Text recognition runs on-device. Results appear directly on top of the image so you can tap naturally.
Translating and understanding
- Pick your target language
- Tap, swipe, draw a box to select a word, a phrase, a sentence or a paragraph.
- See translation or definition pop up next to but not over the selection.
- Listen to the original text read out loud.
Depending on your configuration, SnapVerbo may offer:
- On-device translation
- Optional cloud translation/definition
- Optional AI explanations and contextual information
Cloud features are clearly labeled and described in the privacy policy.
Saving and reviewing vocabulary
When you save a vocab entry, SnapVerbo keeps:
- The original text
- The translation and/or definition
- The image of the original context
- Any tags you may add to it
- Any wordbooks you may add it to
Vocab entries are stored locally on your device but if you want to protect your vocabulary from loss and to be always available across devices, we can sync it to the cloud.
Languages and scripts
Works best
- Latin-alphabet languages (English, Spanish, French, German, etc.)
- Chinese (Simplified and Traditional)
Limited support
- Currently Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Cyrillic, and other non-Latin scripts may produce partial or unreliable results.
If you are learning non-Latin scripts, we are working on making them available.
App language
The SnapVerbo interface is currently English-only.
We will work on the app’s internationalization.
Known limitations
- Some advanced features require network access.
- There is currently no web or desktop version.
Getting help
The fastest way to get help is inside the app:
Settings → Contact & feedback or by using the contact form.
Privacy
SnapVerbo is designed to minimize data collection.
- Analytics are optional
- No captured text is used for advertising
- Cloud features are opt-in
Read the full policy at the privacy policy page.
